English B1

Up to the level where your child understands, answers and copes on their own, instead of translating sentence by sentence in their head.

61 lessons · €12,96/month · the first 14 days are free

This course is for your child if they:

  • already manage simple everyday conversations, which means they are past A2;
  • understand individual words but stop at the first unfamiliar one;
  • have a good mark in English, and you do not know what stands behind it.

It is not for you if your child is only starting out. B1 builds on A2, and there is a separate course for that: English, level A2.

And it is not for you if you are looking for preparation for a specific certificate exam. The course follows the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference, but does not prepare for Cambridge or IELTS.

In English, nobody checks how far your child has got

In maths there is an exam, and it shows where your child stands. In English there is no such moment. Marks are given, years pass, and what your child can actually do stays unknown until the day they need it.

A level is the other way to measure. It does not depend on the grade your child is in, and it means the same thing everywhere.

61 lessons in 4 sections

  1. 1Grammar in use
  2. 2Vocabulary by topic
  3. 3Reading and listening
  4. 4Writing and speaking

Lessons that run over two sittings are marked Part 1 / Part 2. That is how your child meets them in the platform.

The lessons are not watched. They are worked through.

Every lesson is short and has one goal. The tasks ask your child to produce language, not only to recognise it: gap-filling, matching, ordering a sentence, choosing words inside a text, free response.

Every explanation is voiced and can be heard again, as many times as needed.

What your child can do by the end of the course

  • Follows a conversation on a familiar topic, even without knowing every word.

  • Copes alone abroad: at the airport, in a hotel, at the doctor's.

  • Tells what happened and explains an opinion, with a reason.

  • Reads an article or a set of instructions and gets the meaning, without a dictionary on every line.

  • Writes a short text: a message, a letter, a brief opinion.

  • Keeps the conversation going when a word is missing, instead of falling silent.

A language is learned so you can talk to someone

In the world of Intreea your child learns alongside six children their own age. Not teachers. Six children who grow up with them. With a language this matters most directly: there is someone waiting for an answer.

You see the same thing the teacher sees

The parent profile shows your child's progress by section, not as one overall mark. A gap has the name of a section.

  • Readiness by section. Which section is mastered and which is not.
  • Mastery, with clear thresholds. Excellent above 85%, good between 70 and 85%, unsteady between 50 and 70%, struggling below 50%.
  • Mastery and coverage, separately. How much of the material has been covered, and how much of it has been understood. These are not the same number.
  • Activity history. When your child studied and what they submitted.

Questions about the course

How do I know whether my child is ready for B1?

The level assessment starts with the very first tasks and updates with every one that follows. If the A2 foundation is missing, you will see it in the parent profile, and the subscription can move to another course once a month, free of charge.

Is there a level A2?

Yes, a separate course. If the foundation for B1 is missing, the subscription moves to it once a month, free of charge.

Does it replace English at school?

No. It runs alongside. School gives a mark; Intreea shows a level.

How much time a day?

One short lesson a day, with a clear start and end. How long it takes depends on the child.

A mark is given relative to the class. A level means the same thing everywhere.

The first 14 days are free. Enough to see whether your child sits down on their own.
